Time to Model: Custom Weathered SD45s
In this week’s Time to Model Spotlight, we’re featuring several Rivet Counter HO Scale EMD SD45s that were weathered up with road grime by talented modelers who can’t get enough of these high-horsepower workhorses. Check out these amazing custom weathered models now.
First up is Adam Bunkleman, who weathered two beautiful Rivet Counter HO Scale Chicago & North Western EMD SD45s.
On a Facebook Post, Adam said of the photo above: “C&NW SD45s #965 and #974 wait by the engine house to be serviced before heading out on another job. Both locomotives were weathered with airbrush paints and PanPastels to resemble pictures of the units from 1979.”
Next up is Jason Quinn’s incredible Espee SD45.
Jason Quinn models Chessie System, but seeing how SP locomotives were common as run-through power on their system (and vice-versa, a practice that continued with the formation of CSX and until the end of SP), he decided to get one of our new Rivet Counter HO Scale SP SD45s, and weathered it up a bit to reflect how some of SP’s un-rebuilt SD45s looked near the end of their original lives, to mix with his Chessie equipment.
ScaleTrains.com Founder, Paul Ellis, commented on Jason’s work, saying: “He did an outstanding job with the weathering, down to the “red” lettering, which was the result of the reflective Scotchlite lettering wearing away from age, revealing the red primer coat underneath. Beautiful work, Jason!”
Last but not least, another Chicago & North Western SD45 weathered up by Jon Hill of Milepost 70 Customs.
Jon is an incredibly talented Chicago-area modeler who has weathered a wide-variety of ScaleTrains.com locomotives and freight cars. Thanks for sharing, Jon!
We appreciate our customers taking the time to share their modeling projects with us on social media. Seeing your incredible talents applied to our models really makes our hard-working team of employees proud.
SD45s are now available through ScaleTrains.com and Select Retailers™.
