In this week’s Time to Model™ feature, we’re showcasing a video from Mega Projects about Union Pacific’s Turbine locomotives.
Your host, Simon Whistler, will take you through the complete history of the Gas Turbine Electric Locomotive (“GTEL”) program from the 1940s through the 1960s. You’ll learn about how they were designed, where they were built, how they were operated, and the mountainous territory they were used to pull trains over. Additionally, you’ll get to see the only two remaining “Super Turbines” that were saved from the scraper’s torch and preserved for display in Illinois and Utah.
