Announced in 2019, the Pride in Service Program is one way that CSX recognizes the service of its employees who are United States military veterans and active-duty first responders in their local communities. To kick off the program, CSX dedicated three ES44 locomotives in special paint schemes to honor the Spirit of Law Enforcement, First Responders, and the United States Armed Forces.
To ensure that our officially licensed models were true to the real-world prototypes, we worked closely with CSX graphic designer Tyler Hardin and the CSX Huntington Locomotive Shop who provided us with the original paint and lettering diagrams for the three Pride in Service ES44s.
One of our core values as a company is to give back. Like CSX, we believe it’s important to honor those who sacrifice for our country and our local communities on a daily basis. That’s why a portion of the proceeds from the sale of each Pride in Service model will benefit the following non-profit organizations:
Blue Star Families
First Responders Children’s Foundation
Operation Homefront
Operation Gratitude
Wounded Warrior Project
Spirit of Our Law Enforcement
CSXT #3194 honors the Spirit of Our Law Enforcement. It retains its original as-delivered road number and is a late-phase ES44. It was built in 2015 by GE in Erie, Pennsylvania. The locomotive was also the last “Pride in Service” ES44 to be painted and was revealed at the Huntington Shops in August of 2019. We were grateful to have been invited by CSX to attend the locomotive’s unveiling event.
The locomotive is painted in a flashy black, blue, and white scheme that features the slogans “To Protect and Serve” and “Honoring Our Law Enforcement.” It also prominently features the CSX Railroad Police logo, as well as police, fire, and emergency responder logos. In addition, an imprint of the “Thin Blue Line” logo is included on the cab windows.
When first unveiled, the locomotive featured red and blue ditch lights which were only used as a prop for nighttime company promotional photos and videos. True to the prototype from the day it was released to the public, our first run of ES44 #3194 will include red and blue ditch lights. Standard white ditch lights, which the locomotive now wears in regular freight service, will be included with the regular production ES44 models which are expected to arrive later this spring.
