Time to Model: Highlights of the Week for April 23, 2020
It’s Time to Model! This week, we’re highlighting some of our favorite customer images submitted via Facebook and our Sales inbox for the week of April 23rd, 2020.
First up is Arthur Bradley’s custom weathered Rivet Counter HO Scale SD40-2. This former Burlington Northern unit now works for BNSF Railway as no. 7874 and was weathered to match prototype photos. “”When I first saw the ScaleTrains.com Rivet Counter ex-BN SD40-2s, I knew these would be a fun weathering project! With the road number specific patching and fading already completed out of the box, it allowed me to get right to the fun part, which is, of course, making it dirty! The result makes for an impressively realistic model!” said Bradley, owner of the Indiana-based BradleyDCC Custom Models. See more of his work here: https://www.BradleyDCC.com/
Our second spotlight feature is Matt Jackson’s Rivet Counter HO Scale Norfolk Southern ET44 Tier 4 GEVO on the Sebring Model Railroad Club in Sebring, Ohio. Matt was emulating a special deadhead move of Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 no. 757 which occurred in 1:1 Scale last year. After spending over sixty years at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, the “Berk” departed for the last time on Monday, February 11th 2019. Her destination, pulled by diesels from Norfolk Southern, was the Mad River and NKP Museum in Bellevue, OH where the steam locomotive was once in revenue freight service. Next up is Marshall Starks Rivet Counter HO Scale SD40T-2 from a recent operating session at the Rogue Valley Model Railroad Club in Medford, OR. Starks owns quite a few Rivet Counter models and was very happy to operate our most recent road numbers during the session. The club began construction of a permanent layout in 2003 which is based around the Pacific Northwest.
The third highlight from this week’s Time to Model series is Andy Chabot’s Burlington Northern Rivet Counter SD40-2. While Chabot models a modern Union Pacific Railroad on his western-themed layout, he still fancies modeling other railroads like the BN from time-to-time. The Cascade Green paint scheme looks right at home in this scene in which the locomotive is being used to switch out Chabot’s Beaver Lumber Company.
Todd Arnett shared this nicely weathered Rivet Counter HO Scale DASH-9 in Norfolk Southern “Horsehead” paint. Arnett models the Princeton Deep-Water Division of Norfolk Southern in the coal fields of West Virginia. In a recent layout tour series video, we featured Todd’s layout. In it, you’ll learn about the real-life inspiration for the layout, how he built it, and why he’s the proud owner of over fifty ScaleTrains.com Rivet Counter locomotives. Throughout the video, you’ll see various Rivet Counter models, including the HO Tier 4 GEVo, the DASH 9-44CW, the C39-8, and our “Admiral Cab” SD40-2. So sit back and relax as we take a deeper look into Todd Arnett’s layout. Watch it below.
In addition to these excellent images, Josh Clark created a How-To video about weathering a ScaleTrains.com Rivet Counter DASH-9 locomotive. In the video, Josh demonstrates some tips, tricks, and techniques that will help you become an expert at weathering. We’d like to thank Josh for sharing this video with us. Watch it below.
