Museum Quality HO Scale Union Pacific GE 8500 Horsepower "Big Blow" Turbine #12
The epitome of Union Pacific Railroad’s “High Horsepower” program of the 1940s and 50s, the GTEL 8,500HP Turbine locomotives were called “Big Blows” because of their deafening noise. The three-piece sets pulled heavy trains through the sparsely populated landscape between Council Bluffs, IA, and Ogden, UT. 30 sets were built between 1958 and 1961, and all were retired by the early 1970s. GTELs #18 and #26 are preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum and Utah State Railroad Museum, respectively.
The Museum Quality™ HO Scale Union Pacific GE 8500 Horsepower "Big Blow" Turbine is just as legendary as the prototype, setting the bar with numerous LED lighting effects, curve squeal, and frog clank sounds. The model features etched metal grilles and walkways, opening doors on the B Unit, a spinning turbine fan, and hand-applied details specific to each road number.
